Radio Rescue

by Lynne Barasch

"You see, wire telegraph is a kind of a very, very long cat. You pull his tail in New York and his head is meowing in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? And radio operates exactly the same way: you send signals here, they receive them there. The only difference is that there is no cat."   Albert Einstein

In the early years of the Twentieth Century, Morse Code was as essential to communications as the telephone is today.  Robert was determined to learn the complicated code and become a ham radio operator, but isnít he too young to do such a difficult job?  How does his perseverance pay off against the giant task before him?  How will his determination save lives?**
