Pickle Juice on a Cookie
Eleanor was about to go into third grade, but the summer has proved to be as bad as pickle juice on a cookie! It was bad enough that her best friend, Pearl, was spending the summer in Oregon. Then, in August, her parents broke the disastrous news to her. Bibi, who had been Eleanor's baby sitter since she was born, had to move to Florida. Bibi was devastated. She felt like her whole world was crumbling. Even when her mother took some time off from work to take care of her, Eleanor refused to do anything fun. Even when her father invited a friend to play, Eleanor wouldn't talk and left the room to write a letter to Bibi, so her father was left to play (and sing) with the little girl. And, when a new babysitter showed up, what do you think Eleanor did?
Have you ever been so sad or so mad that you are mean to the people you love the most? If so, you will understand why Eleanor behaved the way she did. Would Eleanor ever be happy again? Would Bibi ever answer her letter? From whom DID Eleanor receive a letter? Did she answer it?
